Crazy calorie count

Started by Ky on Mar 02, 10
When i commute, I do about 20km in the morning to work, then about 35km home - and my garmin 705 unit picks up about 2500-3000 calories burnt for the trip. However, sometimes when I upload it here, it comes back with 10,000+ calories, as I think its calculating on the total trip time and ignoring the stationary time for me sitting at work all day.

I agree - calories need to be counted for moving time, not rest time. To allow for the fact that people do stop at stoplights, etc, perhaps standardize on excluding any nonmoving time that is greater than 3 minutes. Ideally you could make this part of the user's settings, e.g. "minimum stop time to include in calorie calculation". Since watts are derivative of this value, Ky must have put out killer wattage!
