Adding Alternative Routes on Same map

I map out rides for our riding group which has varying levels of rider ability, and it would be great to be able to map "Alternate Routes" so that you could have a "Short route" for the newbie riders, an intermediate route and advanced route that might branch off of the main route for the ride. I use the colored line feature for some things, but it would be cool to be able to branch off the track at points to add "bonus mile" branches.

I agree, a nice option for group rides - especially those that might be multiple hours long. Two options and then meet for coffee midway, for example, then might diverge again.

I find it hard to visualize the implementation -- e.g., how would the elevation profile panel incorporate the alternative route? -- but I would really love to see this capability.

not sure... had not considered the elevation profile... but I suppose multiple color coded elevation lines could be shown on the same panel. or tabbed multiple elevation charts showing each leg of the various routes.?

We often offer several different routes of different lengths for a specific ride.

All you really need to be able to do is have the routes listed on the left, and have them mapped on the map in different colors. The elevation profile could just be shown when only one of the routes is selected perhaps.

Good suggestion. Touring interest here. Be great for mapping side trips, or alternants.

Implementation could be like Google maps alternate routing ... shows one main or default route, with the option for one or more others, then when you select an alternate route it displays the data for that route.

Great idea.
In addition I'd like to see this option implemented for uploaded trips as well.
Specifically I'd like to see all trips taken on the same route at the same time - again using the color-coding suggested above.

Agreed, good idea. I like to upload different length routes from events I might ride for comparison and it would be really helpful to combine all routes for one event into one viewing screen. This would also have the advantage of reducing the entries in the 'My Routes' table, which could then have a column indicating how many routes were in each entry. Of course, if this was done there would also be a need for some way to split routes too.
