I believe you use google's walking directions for when "cycling" directions are selected. It would be nice if you used their new cycling directions instead, which give marginally better results. It would also be nice if you could turn on the cycling overlay with bike routes labeled.

Actually, I think you are wrong. This program is using the cycling directions. In Google Maps walking, I can follow bike/multiuse paths near the Phila. Museum of Art. In GM cycling, it goes on roads. RwGPS won't follow the paths.

bikeroutetoaster uses Open Street Map cycle route information, and I get much better cycle-friendly auto routing using bikeroutetoaster because of that. However, so far this is the only downside of ridewithgps - the interface in general is far superior and I'll just accept it for now but would be good to improve it.

it definitely uses the walking directions. just ran a test on my route from home to school & this matches the google walking directions while the google cycling directions are quite different.

maybe this will be a "premium" feature?

We will implement the cycling routes as soon as Google supports them in their Flash SDK. Currently they are only available in the Javascript version of Maps, which we are not using.
