A quick and scenic loop out from La Crosse through Minnesota's apple orchards, with one fairly gradual climb, great views over the Mississippi, and a sweeping descent into La Crescent.

Outstanding scenic vistas, especially the northeast half of the route. Changing your start point to Nodine (parking behind the firehouse/town hall) and riding clockwise has the advantage of putting La Crosse at the midpoint in the ride -- great for lunch or a break before heading back up the bluffs to the Nodine start point. You still get an exhilarating descent into La Crescent. Later, the climb back via the west side of the route is not as difficult as it appears on the profile. You'll have another chance for a refreshment stop at the northernmost point of your return, or the option of shortcutting back to Nodine.
