This rugged and spectacular traversal of Mt. Hood's southeast quadrant offers a rewarding cross-section of challenging terrain from the shady loam of Barlow Road to the high alpine ridges of Bennett Pass. Merging the disciplines of road, gravel and mountain riding, this route includes rocky fire roads, primitive jeep trails, river crossings, hardpacked gravel, butter-smooth tarmac and everything in between.

Rode on 9/8/24 — appreciate the tips from another reviewer on the White River crossing, which was a bit sketch. We ended up wading across with shoes off — basically waded upstream 20 feet or so from where the ramp goes down to the water, and then crossed to the somewhat obvious trail on the other bank. Water was above our knees & hubs in early-mid Sep, so this might not be a great option earlier in the season. Everything else was 10/10 awesome would ride again except the final 5 miles on Hwy 35. We were considering if (nay, when) we do it again to start at the White River or Bennett Pass Sno Park and get the highway miles out of the way while we're fresh.
Rode this 8/24/24 - A good portion of this ride would be better suited for a MTB in its current condition. Very chunky and slow going on 45mm tires. The pavement is amazing. Just a heads up.... The 2020 white river wildfire burned Keeps Mill area from before the top of the decent up the other side. The river crossing was hard to find, (even with the help of a forester) due to storm damage and how overgrown the banks are. I advise the log crossing. Follow what looks like an old boat launch (where the old bridge was perhaps) down to the river, just crawl under the debris and hop on the log. The road will be to your left on the other side. It's in a state of reclamation. It's steep with blow downs and very chunky. August 26, 2024
Rad looking loop! I've wondered if Keeps Mill was fordable many times, good to know!
