# Montseny - Turo de l'home

The [Montseny](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montseny_Massif) mountain range is the biggest massif close to Barcelona with beautiful roads for cycling. The highest summit is the [Turo de l'Home](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tur%C3%B3_de_l%27Home).

From Sant Celoni it's a 27Km climb ([HC category](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hors_cat%C3%A9gorie)) to the [Turo de l'Home](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tur%C3%B3_de_l%27Home).

The route starts from the @poi[Cant Celoni train station](4816398) which can be easely reached from: Barcelona - Sants, Barcelona - Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona - Clot-Arago or Barcelona - Sant Andreu Arenal.

Depending from which station you depart in Barcelona the trip is about 55-35 min. and a one-way trip is approx. 4-5€.

Once you are out of the city it's pretty much straight forward up the mountain on very good asphalt through the forrest. Don't forget to take some pictures: @poi[#1](4820904), @poi[#2](4820902), @poi[#3](4820903), @poi[#4](4820905).

In Sant Celoni there are bakeries, bars, shops and the train station bar for "fueling" and "re-fueling" once you are back.

## Important Reminders

The last @slice[6Km](d,23791.98,29809.86) of the [Turo de l'Home](https://www.strava.com/segments/663907) climb was the access road to the triangulation station located at the top at 1.712m above sea level. Due to the altitude and rough weather conditions (extreme heat in summer and freezing conditions in the summer) the state of the asphalt is rather poor (little (pieces of asphalt) stones all over the place.

In 2016 some parts were *upgraded* with new asphalt but still you need to be carefull on this @slice[stretch](d,32520.83,35740.27) (as you can see in [this video](https://youtu.be/TX6KVTbU1AY?t=5m41s) I lost my bottle cage due to  vibrations and high speed).

* Please make sure you bring an extra spare tire as due to the little stones you might get a puncture (make sure you run your tires on the right pressure in order to avoid flats due to bumps).

* Be carefull on the @slice[first part](d,31484.86,35818.71) of the descent as due to the high negative gradient between -7 to -13%  gradient together with the little stones it can be tricky.

* Once you did the @slice[Turo de l'Home](d,29753.5,35778.52) descent you @slice[continue](d,35799.91,51344.28) towards Sant Celoni. Don't forget to enjoy!

* As weather conditions might change rapidly at the summit don't forget to bring a jacket or gilet and gloves.

## Best time to ride

* Best time to ride is weekdays in the mornings due to very low traffic (mainly locals). There is no real problem to ride in the weekends but mind that there will be a lot more cars/motorbikes.
