Route Details

While you can pick up this ride wherever suits you best, it starts from the free parking in Bagni Vignoni. An absolute non-negotiable is to wander into town where there's a @photo[famous bath](8696702) surrounded by restaurants and cafes.

There's not much of a warm-up because you're headed straight for the stone tower at Rocca d'Orcia. If you're feeling extra peppy, I challenge you to reach the tower without setting foot to pavement. It's a tall ask but not impossible.

Continuing south towards Monte Amiata is a mix of open Tuscan hills and shady forest. At @point[25 km](d,24921.44), you have the choice of taking on the most prestigious segment of Monte Amiata and 40 extra kilometers... or not — you can always save it for another ride 😉.

The route winds through @point[Bagni san Filippo](d,69730.07), a natural Tuscan hot spring that attracts bathers of all nationalities. There are a few cafes and restaurants that make for an ideal place to stop.

At @point[80 km](d,80753.21), either enter or pass by Radicofani — a sleepy town with an impressive fortress uptop. Once you're here, the hardest part of the ride is behind you. A rolling, mostly flat road takes you back to Bagni Vignoni.
