Wisconsin River Headwaters Tour Day 2

A nice less than 50 mile day ride through the rolling hills of Wisconsin's dairy land from Fond Du Lac to the Kettle Moraine State Forest and the village of Dundee along the Prairie Trail, Old Plank Road Trail, country roads and the Eisenbahn State Trail into Eden before riding along the Ledge on US 45's wide shoulder back to Fond Du Lac. The planned route has Dundee at the halfway point so it's about the same mileage (~22 miles) for both sides of this loop ride. (less)

A Wisconsin day ride from FDL thru Glenbeulah, Elkhart Lake, Kiel, St. Anna, Calvary, St. Peter back to FDL (less)

A ride from Fond Du Lac east on the fully PAVED Old Plank Road Trail (the route planner shows a few segments as unpaved) to Greenbush heading south on the scenic drive thru the northern section of the Kettle Moraine State Forest to Long Lake and the town of Dundee turning northwest returning to Fond Du Lac (less)

There is no such thing as a bad bike ride. Any ride, regardless of weather that gets us outside on our bikes seeing the world around us without the limitation of looking though a motor vehicle's windows, able to smell the air, feel the sky, touch the ground and see the beauty of nature and what man creates is about as close as we modern people can ever get to what folks like John Muir, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark experienced on their journeys into the wilderness. So get out there, on a weekend morning, or whenever you have a few hours to get on your bike and just ride for the fun of it. (less)

A 60 mile day ride to High Cliff State Park from Fond Du Lac and back. The route can be a purely out and back to cut the riding time down for more time to stop and enjoy the State Park and other attractions, stores, and stops along the route or make a whole day ride. Of course there are several campgrounds along the route to make it a weekend get away by bike. (less)

A three to four (or more) day long bike tour following the Wisconsin River from it's mouth on the Mississippi River just south of Prairie du Chien to Devil's Lake State Park near Baraboo crossing over the Wisconsin River one last time at Portage, Wis. to head east north east thru Pardeeville, Fox Lake, Waupun to end in Fond du Lac.

This is a beautiful and fun ride along the Wisconsin river in the Driftless region. However, for full disclosure, when I rode this route in July 2025 it was not very good weather, which is why for a three day tour there are not as many photos as I would usually have for a tour of this length, for which I apologize. Day one from Pikes Peak SP to Muscoda, Wis. was spent riding to try to stay ahead of the weather, which I managed to do, but when I arrived in Muscoda the rain had caught up with me. Day two from Muscoda to Devil's Lake State Park south of Baraboo was pretty much a full day of riding in rain and thunderstorms, often the rain was torrential downpours. setting up camp in the rain, and having rain all night thru to the next morning. Day three was finally a dry day, but all my gear was such a mud soaked mess, I decided that I didn't want to set up camp again and since I had favorable tailwinds out of the southwest for a ride that was headed east northeast I just rode from Baraboo to Fond du Lac where I reside in order to get home and get my gear cleaned up asap. Please do not let my weather experience, due to my inflexibility of schedule to avoid weather in order to get home on Sunday July 13 impact your decision to ride this stunning route. Day One of a four day bike tour from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin traveling west to meet up with and ride along the Wisconsin River north to Stevens Point before turning east to ride through Waupaca, Fremont and Oshkosh back to Fond du Lac. (less)

This is a very relaxing ride with no serious climbs, overall a descent as the route heads east towards Lake Winnebago. The ride passes through several quaint Wisconsin towns with lots of charm, wonderful people to talk to, and good food, good coffee and good times as you pedal along the Tomorrow River, Waupaca River, Crystal River and Wolf River from Plover to Fremont. A loop ride from Fond du Lac to Omro on the Fox River, north to Winneconne that sits on the Wolf River between Lake Winneconne and Lake Butte Des Morts, following along the north shoreline of Lake Butte Des Morts to the village of Butte Des Morts, riding county road S to the trailhead of the Wiouwash Trail a crushed limestone trail that follows the lake shore all the way into Oshkosh. Riding east through the campus of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh to turn south on US 45 to ride the west shore of Lake Winnebago back to Fond du Lac. (less)

An annual April ride around Lake Winnebago to welcome the on set of Spring since my bike rides during winter are much shorter, usually less than 30 miles, and more out of necessity to run errands. This much longer ride, typically 75-85 miles, depending on specific route is a wonderful warm up ride kicking off the season of bike touring around Wisconsin and the upper Midwest.

A multi-day tour riding along the Wisconsin River from Rhinelander, Wis. to the headwaters at Lac Vieux Desert, from the headwaters back to Rhinelander to follow the river to Steven's Point before riding back to my home in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. (less)

A hilly ride up and around a small portion of the Niagara Escarpment, locally known as 'The Ledge', along the southeast shore of Lake Winnebago near Fond Du Lac. A good hill training ride for any type of cyclist. (less)

An easy, not too hilly, pretty quiet (not a lot of traffic) recreational ride from the Prairie Trail trailhead parking lot in Taycheedah to LeClare Dairy in Pipe, Wis. for lunch and hanging out and petting some goats, llamas, and cows. Oh and tasting some wonderful Wisconsin cheeses made from both goat and or cow milks. The cafe has a great menu and there's locally made ice cream for dessert. This is nice ride for families with older aspiring cyclists, that are ready for longer rides and understand proper ride safety, or with little ones that are riding along with mom or dad in trailers or bike seats. The paved country roads do not have a lot of traffic, but there are always some motor vehicles, but from my experience the drivers are very polite, slow down and pass with caution usually crossing fully into the opposing lane to do so.

This is Day Two of a four day bike tour. Day two is a long, 90 mile plus, day of riding along the Wisconsin River. The route is pretty flat without a lot of long or steep climbs and what uphill riding there is is shallow and easy. This is a full day of riding so plan accordingly with enough time for stops to enjoy the scenery, take lots of pictures, talk to locals, and enjoy the many restaurants, bars and stores along the way in small villages and larger towns. An easy, casual ride with next to no gain in elevation, with a lot of fun places to stop and take in the scenery, get a beer, have a meal, and even get served by roller skating car hops. (less)

Every year on my birthday in October I do a day long bike ride. This route was my birthday ride route the fall of 2025 where I met my son and grandson at Quarry Park in Sheyboygan to play disc golf and then have lunch before ride back to Fond Du Lac. This routing in autumn to take in the fall foliage colors is a wonderful choice for the bike touring enthusiast. (less)
