We're looking for an excellent senior iOS engineerApply Now
The core function of our app is to plan, record, & navigate bike rides. It acts as a companion to our website, and as a result it does quite a lot. Our service is used both by end users, as well as club, tour, and event organizers, and we have ambitious plans for its future. Our team currently has four mobile developers, two focused on iOS, and two on Android. You should have experience with and know the design considerations and constraints of iOS and should have experience writing threaded code. Our app makes extensive use of threads because it is a long running app that works with or without the screen on. You should also be extremely concerned about the impact of your work on battery life. Much of the upcoming work is UI and UX related, so comfort working with the frontend of the app is required.
We strive to create great cycling experiences. We want people to go on better rides, more often. We don't run any ads on the site or in the app, and are able to maintain a singular focus on serving cyclists and those who serve cyclists.
The iOS app is currently a mix of Objective C and Swift so you will need to be comfortable with both languages. We enjoy using Swift (and Kotlin on Android) and default to it for most new development moving forward, though this isn't a hard rule. The app uses GPS and optionally the barometer for navigation, Bluetooth to connect to external devices, the camera for taking ride photos, and we support the Apple Watch. The app also has some custom views and animations, and it synchronizes and caches data with our backend via several endpoints.
You must be comfortable with creating views and setting layout constraints programatically. You should also be familiar with Git and XCUnitTest/XCUITest.
Between bike ride navigation, optimizing for offline use, and efficiently dealing with all the data that can be collected during a ride, we have solved many interesting and challenging problems (with many more forthcoming).
Ride with GPS is a team of nineteen professionals delivering software that supports great cycling experiences. Our website is used to plan bike routes and events, manage bike clubs, analyze ride data, and publish great rides. Our companion app is a bike computer, route navigator, and ride recorder. Within the cycling world, we’re serving weekend riders, clubs, event organizers, tour operators, and racers. By joining Ride with GPS, you will help millions of people have a great time on their bike. Our business is bootstrapped and profitable, focused on sustainable growth via user satisfaction and word of mouth advertising.
We’re bringing on several more people right now, and will be honing what we have built and taking it to the next level in terms of design & experience. 2020 will be our biggest year on every measure, and it will be a lot of fun to be a part of.
Our office is centrally located, on NE 7th and Broadway. We have standing desks, a bike repair station, and a stocked kitchenette & fridge. We all love riding bikes, from road riding to mountain biking and everything in between. We have a corporate gym membership at the nearby Lloyd Athletic Club, and several of us routinely walk there to play racquetball or work out. Lunch runs and rides are also a regular occurrence. Three of us are also avid motorcyclists. We support a healthy balanced lifestyle, we’re family-friendly (many of us have young kids), and we are all very passionate about what we do in our work.
We offer competitive salary, an excellent office environment as well as health, dental and vision insurance, and a 401k with a 10% match. You'll be equipped with a new Macbook Pro, iMac, or Linux machine, a standing desk and any other productivity tools that are needed. We strongly believe in testing our own software, and as a result are more than happy to help defray some of the costs of cycling.
If you're interested, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with your resume and some background information on what role you played in the most recent app(s) you have worked on. Please include at least a paragraph explaining your relationship with cycling. We'll respond in a timely manner and move things forward for promising candidates.
