Instead of going to Horsetooth, riders will climb Stove Prarie Road which has some punchy (10-12%) sections before turning into Rist Canyon and descending all the way into LaPorte (near Ft. The course is mostly forest service roads that will flatten out prior to a jaunt back into town on a bike path. You will hit the Vasquez Creek aid station twice, at mile 17.5 then again at 21.3 miles, where you can catch your breath, replenish nutrients or use the facilities.\r\n\r\n**The Crooked Gravel Long Course** is 67 miles of rugged adventure on nearly all gravel with 5600 feet of climbing.  After leaving Winter Park, riders make a sharp left onto gravel roads and dive into the heart of Arapahoe National Forest.  The ascent winds through towering pines and alongside babbling creeks with views getting better as you climb.  The first climb tops out at 10,400 ft (13.5 miles in) where you'll can refresh and regroup at the first Aid Station.  Then you'll enjoy miles of smiles as you cruise down to the next aid station at 39.5 miles just in time to power up before your longest climb of the day (2500 ft of vertical over 13 miles).  Take in the views and recoup at the 53.5 mile aid station before descending back down to the Finish.\r\n\r\n\r\nWhy we chose this ride: We have heard great things about this ride and are pleased to bring something new to our riders! The Ned Gravel race in July offers a sampling of these routes with their Tungsten, Gold, Silver and Bronze gravel routes and we'll be tackling two of those this weekend! Expect some good climbs, beautiful views, historic mining sites, and fun descents.\r\n\r\nPack as much water as you're able as there are no refill spots on the routes. Note there is no bathroom at the Park-n-Ride -- the easiest to access bathroom is at Ned General Store (formerly Salto Coffee) which opens at 7am. https://maps.app.goo.gl/Hmxb2QPyLBem8ZXg9\r\n\r\nGreen Route:\r\nThe Green Route is a perfect introduction to gravel with elevation! With 10 miles and 1,117 ft of climbing, you'll get a nice little taste of Nederland gravel with most of the climbing on pavement. The gravel climbing is typically between 2-4% grade, with one punchy bit at the end for a short 8% challenge. You'll finish on a downhill and be ready for some refreshments in town!\r\n\r\nBlue Route: \r\nAt about 20 miles and 2,200’ of climbing, this is no slouch. Following the same start as the Green Route, you'll begin by climbing out of town on pavement before turning off to gravel for some punchy up hills and fast descents. After a breathtaking climb up the peaceful gravel on CR-103, you'll have a blast bombing down the Peak-to-Peak Highway back towards Nederland. Finally, one last gravel climb will take you to some beautiful mountain views and a fun descent back into town.\r\n\r\nBlack Route:\r\nAt almost 30 miles and 3000+ ft of climbing, this route will provide a challenge!  Following the Green route out of town, you will cut off in a different direction from the Blue riders and head to Sugarloaf Mountain before cutting back on Switzerland Trail.  Then you'll have a fast, fun descent back towards town before one more climb will take you to some beautiful mountain views and a fun descent back into town. They will then descend Red Rocks, hit the Hogback, stroll through Dinosaur Ridge, and then head back to the starting point. A lovely ride with a great profile! The Ned Gravel race in July offers a sampling of these routes with their Tungsten, Gold, Silver and Bronze gravel routes and we'll be tackling two of those this weekend! Expect some good climbs, beautiful views, historic mining sites, and fun descents. \r\n\r\nPack as much water as you're able as there are no refill spots on the routes. You'll finish on a downhill and be ready for some refreshments in town!\r\n\r\nBlue Route:\r\nAt about 20 miles and 2,200’ of climbing, this is no slouch. Following the same start as the Green Route, you'll begin by climbing out of town on pavement before turning off to gravel for some punchy up hills and fast descents. Almost completely on trails (except for one short detour) and flat. A great ride to get your bearings!\r\n \r\nBlue Ride: 25.5-mile out-and-back on trails, bike paths, neighborhood bikeways, and streets. A mellow, steady, sustained climb to Golden. Stop for coffee and gender neutral bathrooms in Golden before (mostly) coasting back down to Denver.\r\n\r\nBlack Ride: 37.6-mile out-and-back on trails and roads. A steady climb to Golden followed by the 1700-foot Lookout Climb before returning to Denver.\r\n\r\nOnly those who have signed our waiver can join our rides.
