After a moderate and steady climb heading northwest out of town, this route rolls through gentle hills along Shutterlee Mill, Galena and Frog Pond Roads before turning south towards Swoope, Virginia. The route finishes strong with a sustained climb on Smoky Row and Cedar Green Roads before returning to town.
This route allows for a 1.5-2 hour ride with a mix of climbing, descending and recovery sections. The scenery south of Parkersburg Pike can’t be beat. It ends back in the Downtown area, and offering many options for rejuvenating food and beverages.

DIRECTION: The loop begins in downtown Staunton and heads out of town into Augusta County on Shutterlee Mill Road.
DIFFICULTY/CHALLENGES: This is an intermediate ride. The ride is a moderate distance and the climbs are average for this area.
The route is entirely on paved roads, with one large intersection crossing going out of town at VA 262/Woodrow Wilson Parkway, and two short segments on busy road: a 0.30-mile section of US 250 between Galena and Frog Pond Roads, and a 0.6-mile section on VA 254/Parkersburg Pike between Frog Pond and Miss Phillips Roads. Cross VA 262, US 250, and VA 254 with caution.
FACILITIES ON ROUTE: The route starts in downtown Staunton with opportunities for food and restrooms. The route ends near many downtown restaurants, breweries and wine bars to complete your ride experience.
