Waynesboro to Grottoes Loop 35 Miles

This longer route will let you log some of the flattest road miles in Augusta County as you follow the South River towards its confluence with the North River at Port Republic, Virginia. Save some energy for a steady 6-mile climb on Battlefield/Long Meadow Road on the return to town.

Make it a full-day adventure with a picnic and tour of Grand Caverns in the Town of Grottoes.

The return to Waynesboro follows the meandering Middle River, and passes by renowned horticulturalist André Viette’s home and extensive perennial garden and nursery on Long Meadow Road.

PARKING: Park in the Farmer’s Market public lot at the corner of West Main Street and Arch Avenue (Waynesboro Pavilion at Constitution Park).

START: Constitution Park, 215 W. Main Street, Waynesboro VA 22980

DIFFICULTY/CHALLENGES: This is an intermediate route due to its length and modest elevation gain. Use caution when crossing New Hope Road (VA 254) on Long Meadow Road.

FACILITIES ON ROUTE: The route starts in downtown Waynesboro with ample opportunities for food and rest rooms. Heritage on Main Street and The Green Leaf Grill are local favorites.
