Shadowed by the Massanutten mountain peak this route starts at the edge of the resort and goes through area farmland and a few small communities. It takes you through the community of McGaheysville, out into the country past the small town of Port Republic, back past Cross Keys Vineyard and Lakeview golf course. It then returns on the same route for the last 6 miles. This is a moderate to difficult length ride with many small hills. It is the same route as the 39 miler with added length. It has sections with moderate traffic as well as sections with very low traffic.
START: This ride is intended to provide a route leaving from the Massanutten resort. A parking start location is provided as a reference. Adventure Dr., McGaheysville, VA 22840. The address is a short road that leads into the Massanutten Water Park. The map start is from the back end of the furthest parking lot. It is 0.5 miles from the turn from Resort Drive to Bloomer Springs Road which is within the loop.
PARKING: There is public parking in the water park parking lot. Please use the spaces away from the water park.
DIFFICULTY/CHALLENGES: This is an intermediate ride with a variety of small hills along the way. . There are three sections of high speed traffic – mile 11.9, 32.3 and 40.3. These sections are narrow and traffic can be going in excess of 55 to 60 mph.
DIRECTION: The map is laid out in a clockwise direction with no specific reason. It can easily be reversed.
FACILITIES ON ROUTE: Route starts at the Massanutten resort check in center where there are parking and toilet facilities. There is a convenience store on the route at mile 2.4. There are some public facilities at mile 12.4. This area varies and may have more/less when you are there. You should not count on these for food or water. There are a variety of services in the town of Grottoes at mile 14.6, There are no other facilities until you return to McGahyesville at mile 48.5. The Cross Keys winery is at mile 31.2 if you are interested in a rest and a beautiful view.
