Courageously, 10 of us set out under darkening skies , John H, Roy, Geoff, Sandra, Jean, Angela, Steve, Stuart, Cliff and John W. The weather gradually worsened as we approached J.J’s a t Penn/Tyler’s Green. The tea stop was disappointing and overpriced. Heading down Cock Lane to Wycombe Marsh Shopping Mall and followed the River Wye viaKeep hill to Flackwell Heath Rd, via Keep Hill Woods a steep climb of 15%. Well doe to Steve, John H. and Sandra who made it to the top., without walking. Plunging down WinchBottom we ascended up to the Handy Cross. The weather worsened dramatically and curtailed the planned route and plunged down to Marlow. Through stinging rain and soaking wet we arrived at the Marlow Donkey. The leader was heartened as he had to produce ID to enable access to the Senior Citizens’ menu. The bar staff incredulously accepted the ID was not a forgery. Meals were timely, well served, well presented, great value and nutritious. (will go again) It was tipping down so Cliff and Stuart had another pint. (Feeble excuse) This empowered Stuart to again don and rather attractive pink hat, which he asserted he was given at a Gay Pride Cricket Match. (see pic) We left in the rain dodging stinging nettles and wet overhead fauna we passed through Marlow to Bourne End and Wooburn Green. Cliff (TEC) got lost Sandra went back to no avail.
Cheerfully we ascended Windsor Hill whilst Geoff bided for home. Somewhere along the Slough Rd and Collumn Green Rd. the remaining crew dispersed. Leader waited and Steve texted. Fortunately we met up along the A40 and we said our goodbyes.
