An epic east to west bikepacking traverse of California's Southern Sierra Mountains (note: click the points on the map to view photos of the route). This bikepacking route is most similar to the Dixie 200, the Tahoe Rim Trail and the Colorado Trail. This course demands advanced technical mountain biking skills due to the vast amount of singletrack riding. If you don't like technical mountain biking, this route is not for you!
Estimated time to complete: 2 days at "crackhead" race pace. 3 days at a very fast pace. 4 days at a moderate pace. 4.5 to 5 days at a touring pace.
Best time(s) of year: late May/ early June; or October (after the first autumn rain). This route is not recommended for mid summer due to sandy and hot conditions that time of year. Suggested starting point (if Sherman Pass Road is closed) is the Kennedy Meadows Store. Suggested starting point (if Sherman Pass Road is open) is at mile 8 at Fish Creek Campground.
There are only 2 resupply points along the route in the towns of Kernville and Wofford Heights which is roughly at the halfway point of the route. Kernville has multiple stores, restaurants and lodging.
A GPS with the route and waypoints is absolutely essential. Also, the "Kern River Sierra" map by Extremeline Productions is also absolutely essential for navigation since there are so many different trails and roads in this area.
An Uber XL from Porterville to Kennedy Meadows is about $140.00 (for small groups, probably cheaper than Mountain and River Adventures)
Mountain & River Adventures (might be cheaper for larger groups): Phone: 760-376-6553
