This route is a new Rails to Trails project from the city of Scappoose to the city of Vernonia. Ride from the Multnomah Channel to the Coast Range and through lush forests. Watch out for walkers and equestrian users as the CZ is a multi-use trail. Stay on the designated trail as private property runs through and nearby.

I accidentally took the Columbia Forest Road at miles 19 & 35 as it intuitively seemed like the right path, & enjoyed more gravel, though the gravel here was chunkier, but not unnavigable. Took the single-track path right off the Nehalem River Highway at mile 18.8 in lieu of the road, I do NOT recommend! Stay on the road. VERY beautiful & fun trail, lots of canopy cover even on incredibly sunny or hot days! Loop around Vernonia Lake for a paved, scenic, & pleasant reprieve.
Stating from Scappoose trail was well marked and easy to navigate after toping out around 14 miles and heading downhill the trail is still obvious. There came a point were it was hard to tell if you were still on the trail and nothing marking the trail. Eventually wound up on a road and made it to Vernonia. Wish the whole trail was as well marked as it is near Scappoose.
