THIS IS PLAN B

Race to the Rock 2020 is a meal with three courses. The amuse-bouche is Normanville to Norton Summit (the PLAN B or v5 course is shown here). The entree is Normanville to Blinman (including the Mawson Trail). The full course is Normanville to Uluru. Can you just ride the entree (Normanville to Blinman)? Of course! You will love it - the Mawson Trail is amazing. Can you ride just the amuse-bouche (Normanville to Norton Summit)? Absolutely, it's a great but tough day ride! You will love the Fleurieu Peninsula gravel and the awesome Adelaide Hills single track.

This map shows the current version of the PLAN B amuse-bouche from Normanville to Norton Summit. Please use extreme caution when riding on the fire roads and tracks included in this file. From our experience, they are often used by walkers, many of them elderly. Please use a bell, slow down on descents, be polite and say hello. Some of the tracks through the Adelaide Hills are technical MTB trails - be prepared for some rough and rocky riding at times. Don't ride beyond your capabilities - if you get scared, walk!

This is my own personal race against the clock to the rock starting in Normanville, South Australia at 6:22 am on 5 Sep 2020. Maybe Teef will do it too. Who knows? Maybe I'll get injured and won't be able to start? It's very unlikely we will be there due to border closures and COVID-19 related travel restrictions. Maybe you'll be on your own with no one else riding. That shouldn't matter to you. If you choose to ride the course, that's your business and not my problem. It will be your own personal decision. You are the organiser of your ride. Not me. Do your own due diligence on the course. It is dangerous, remote and requires serious preparation and experience to complete unsupported.

There are extremely long gaps between services on the main course route once you reach the Flinders Ranges and beyond, sometimes close to 300 km, on unsealed roads and tracks that could turn into an unrideable mess with only a small amount of rain. This happened in the 2016 edition when only one rider was able to complete the full course due to flooding that closed roads for weeks. You will need to do your own research to find where food, water and other supplies or services you need will be located. Be warned that many roads on this course could close due to fire or flood on any day of the year, sometimes for weeks.
