A safe(r) 200 to ride in winter. It makes use of the gravel sections of the Galloping Goose, it avoids big hills and generally stays close to the ocean. The route favours the east side of the Peninsula which is often less icy than the west. The trip around Deep Cove is planned to be in the warmer part of the day. The start avoids the Trestle Bridge which can be icy in the morning. The ride starts and ends downtown. Moving the start to the Atkins Road parking lot would not make much difference. If the start was somewhere up on the Peninsula, consider what time of day you will be in Deep Cove or descending Martindale Road if there is a risk of ice.
