This moderate 20 mile route begins with a moderate climb to Frozen Ocean State Forest at mile 7.5 which sits between the Owasco and Skaneateles Lakes. This odd name refers to the abundant presence of frozen-in-time fossils in the area from when it was the bottom of an inland sea. Now it's a nice bit of forested area with a quiet road.
After you pass through this forested area you enter a scenic farm-scape and begin to steer eastward into a valley which seems to lie before you just for your viewing pleasure as you descend.
At about mile 11 you begin a gentle ascent for the next 2.5 miles. This is followed by a gentle descent for the rest of the ride on Sayles Corners Road, returning to NYS 38A into Moravia.
While passing through Moravia on your way back to the State Park, you might want to reward yourself with an ice cream at Candy's Corner Cones at 102 Main St. (next to True Value Hardware, across street from Community Bank, N.A.).
