A variety of great gravel roads will get you to the rest stop in Petersham at mile 28. Then you'll plummet down West St and enter the Quabbin Area roads. Soon you will be pedaling along the reservoir. Enjoy the views and relatively easy pedaling because a very challenging climb to New Salem is next. Stop at the convenience store on Rt 202 if needed. The next rest stop is back in Petersham at mile 62. Significant climbing awaits before you'll see the beautiful Petersham Common again. From there, things get a lot easier, until the last 3 miles that is, but alas, the ride is nearly over.

First time gravel ride and loved it. The adventure, the views, almost zero traffic, and a very challenging day. Add in the perfect weather and it doesn’t get any better.

A worthwhile gravel route in and around Quabbin. Quiet and scenic. Hilly. Quabbin Park sections are the highlight. The gravel roads vary between smooth dirt roads and very stony unmaintained class IV. Bring your widest gravel tires. They say the dirt is less chunky when there is frequent rain, but that was not the case this summer. Gravel bike or xc hardtail.
