Mostly gravel double track roads that are well maintained. The course takes you on some “Savannah railroad” trail or something like that, which is less well maintained, and also some single track to connect two dead ends. The single track is short, but my novice bike handling skills were unable to ride the entire part. There is even a short stream crossing with very steep banks that I doubt even an expert bike handler would be able to do without dismounting. Overall super fun ride though!
The route is a great 2-3 hour gravel ride. the terrain is not super challenging and the forest roads are well maintained. It's a pretty quiet area. That also means, pack well. You won't be able to find any support for anything along the route. not sure I even crossed a gas station.
For bike packing, it is easily extendable and there is the nearby Lick Fork Lake campground. This could make another day in the area easy and fun. Parson's mountain, with all of its forest roads and trails is adjacent. The "Greenwood 50" route is only a few miles away.
