Circumnavigating Tiger Mountain with stretches through Raging River and Taylor Mountain trail systems, Raging Tiger is a perfect mixed terrain ride to welcome spring’s arrival.
Situated at the edge of Cascades, the famed Issaquah Alps are Seattle’s outdoor playground with miles of dedicated singletrack to hike and mountain bike. Because of their relatively low elevation, the Issaquah Alps see limited snow in Winter and melt out quickly come Spring, making it one of our favorite regions in the Puget Sound to ride during the shoulder seasons.
Raging Tiger visits many trail systems you are probably familiar with and makes a track that exemplifies what mixed terrain riding looks like in Puget Sound. Featuring significant stretches of singletrack, fast rolling gravel, and scenic pavement, the route fits solidly in “not sure which bike to ride” territory. Climbs are plentiful and often steep, bring your legs! There are numerous options to trim or add some singletrack, cut out a climb, or add some pavement, but we think that the surface variety in this iteration of the loop keeps the route fun and engaging.
Stretches of the route visit some remote sections of the Raging River and Taylor Mountain Recreation Areas, as always be prepared to fix your bike and carry enough food and water to get you back to civilization. The route starts at Issaquah High School and can be ridden in either direction, with clockwise frontloading resupply options and flowing a bit better with the busier paved sections.
Happy riding!
