Start at the horse transfer station near Crystal Lake. I-80E to US40 (towards Heber). Exit 4 Kamas. Left at UT248, Left at UT32, Left at UF150. Left at Crystal Lake Road. Pass the turn to Crystal Lake Trailhead. Horse trailer parking is about 1/4 mile beyond the fork to the trailhead. then you ride through the trees parallel to the road until you get to Crystal Lake Trailhead, and start the trail there.
Uinta trails are very rocky (shoes/boots required). There is water along the trail. At Long Lake the bridge crossing is high and narrow with no railing, but you can get across the creek below it if you pick your way. Then it goes up a somewhat difficult/steppy rock face, which is more difficult to come down again later. This can be tricky for many horses, so pick your way carefully and get off and walk if needs be.
