This moderately difficult loop in the Umpqua National Forest will take you past three beautiful and spectacular waterfalls 0.4 -0.6 mile walk from the gravel roads. The falls are Spirit, Pinard and Moon Falls. The grades are modest and the road surfaces smooth for gravel, washboards in rare spots. Best done counterclockwise, the route takes one through both dense and thinned forests with occasional longer views of the surrounding area.
The ride begins and ends at Spirit Falls, so some like to take their post ride food and drink on their walk down to the falls and the picnic table there. Begin by riding up FSR 1790 for 3.5 miles and the Pinard Falls trailhead. Continue on FSR for a total of just over 5 miles and turn left on FSR 1714. At milepoint 5, turn left on FSR 1702. Moon Falls trailhead is at milepoint 9. Continue downhill on FSR !&)@ back to the start.

Best time to take the ride is April to July when the water is higher, but the falls run year around and so a later summer ride can be delightful as well. The route is often snowbound in the winter, but if fat tire riders might make a go of it any time.
