The first running of The Japanese Hollow route was held on April 15, put on by Ron Lewis of Our Mother of the Mountain in conjunction with the Unpaved ride series. We counted over 50 people in attendance for the official start, and there were definitely a handful more that started a little after. A fine group of friends for what turned out to be an extraordinary day

After a hearty breakfast we gathered and left from Wahtonka High School heading out 10 St, taking a quick right out of town and then beginning our ascent up Skyline Rd. It's a long, lovely climb giving us immediate views of the surrounding hillside and cherry blossoms from the orchards just coming into bloom.
After our stint on pavement we finally came to gravel. And then to an abandoned barn. And then to a gigantic sky with endless views.
And then we flattened out for a while for before an excellent descent
After our descent we had a nice re-group spot where everyone shared their excitement about what had just transpired along with some snacks. This got us stoked before out next forested climb.
Then we got a most excellent premium 15 mile gravel descent.
Which brought us back to pavement and a nice backdrop for bike photos (combining all my #baaw photos here)
Another re-group at the intersection of 8 mile road and Japanese Hollow Rd and we took off as a nice group, eventually getting back onto gravel for more climbing.
More gravel climbs which meant more sweet gravel descents
Back on pavement on 3 Mile County Rd brought us back to more orchards and then back into town.
Since Zack and I are pretty slow most of the crew had already finished and were hanging in the parking lot sharing beers. We all lingered for a while, sharing in the joy of the first year of The Japanese Hollow, instantly becoming a classic and must do on the OMTM calendar.
