Me and my cousin Jef decided to go out for a ride, and make it a good one. Having ridden many of the Antwerp trails together already, we decided to hop on a train. 7am start, quick coffee and breakfast in the station, and then hop on the train to Diest. It's only 1hr by train - and you feel like you are in a different country. Flanders is so diverse.
The plan was pretty simple: a tour of Limburg and Haspengouw to see a couple of things that we had wanted to see for a while. First, we had a great ride through Limburg as the sun started to warm us. Beautiful riding.
After an hour and a half we got to the amazing bike path "Cycling through water", near the beautiful village of Bokrijk. It has gotten some serious fame lately - it was even mentioned in Time magazine's 100 best places to visit in 2018 - and it is pretty sweet.
Then our path continued to the amazing castle of Alden-Biesen, which is where we also where Jef had a puncture. Nothing serious, but we got a bit delayed to go and visit our dear friend Nico in his new house in Mal (near Tongeren) for lunch. No biggie, and after a short stop we were again rolling along.
Last stretch was probably the most beautiful part. We had rolling hills now, through the many pear and apple orchards that are so abundant in this part of Flanders. It's so gorgeous - and so different from the Antwerp area, even though it's less than 100km away.
Last stop was the amazing "See through church" of Borgloon - a piece of art that I had wanted to see for a long time. It is truly amazing. It's called "Reading between the Lines", and you should go see it. It's located in the middle of the orchards, you can't get there other then by foot or bike - fantastic...
That was it. Train ride home. A couple of trappist beers on a beautiful Antwerp square to wash it all down, and just happy memories to follow. Loved it.
