This counter-clockwise loop around [Perry Lake](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perry_Lake_(Kansas)) starts in the quaint town of [Perry, Kansas](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perry,_Kansas) which is located just northeast of Topeka, Kansas (northwest of Lawrence, Kansas). The rolling hills surrounding the lake will have you using all your gears and challenge your stamina and grit. This is my go-to route for some close by gravel/hill terrain.

As long as you remember the lake will always be on your left, you can't get too lost. I challenge you to find new routes -- there are an abundance of gravel interconnections. If you are interested in a shorter route, consider following 92 west from @point[Oskaloosa](d,24104.77) to @point[Meriden](d,81055.71).

There are three rest stops after you leave the comforts of the @photo[Casey's General Store](3071232) in Perry.  The first stop is a @poi[Casey's General Store](4846763) in Oskaloosa (mile 15). The second is @poi[Petro Pantry](4846764) in Valley Falls (mile 32.5); and the third is @poi[Max Mart](4846762) in Meriden (mile 50.5).

The first couple miles of the route are paved and then the fun begins (blue sections of the route indicated paved roads, and red indicates unpaved). My @slice[favorite part of this route](d,62553.94,66600.08) involves a shallow @photo[creek crossing](3071242) and a section of @photo[dirt road](3071241). I would advise a detour of this section if it has rained recently.

The last 13 miles of the route are paved, but you are treated to a scenic lake side road and a great view of the water from on the dam.

*I live near Kansas City but drive to Perry (60 minute drive) for a change of scenary and enjoy the undulations of this route. I hope you enjoy this ride as much as I do.*
