A beautiful ride highlighting some of Portland's historic neighborhoods, with a climb up a dormant volcano to Mount Tabor Park.

Route Details

The Mount Tabor Loop winds through the Rose City Park and North Tabor neighborhoods before ascending Portland's famous Mount Tabor, an extinct volcano! It descends the back side of the mountain and @slice[heads north on a car-free multi-use path](d,11781.15,16492.41), where it heads west through Roseway and Cully before @slice[descending scenic Wisteria Drive](d,20867.01,21814.81) back to your starting point.

This is a great route to not only spend some time on beautiful Mount Tabor, but also to experience some of Portland's most appealing neighborhoods. You'll ride through @point[historic Hollywood](d,1263.08) before making your way down tree-lined streets heading to the bottom of the hill. The climb begins as you @point[cross Burnside street](d,4133.59), before you make a right to head up the mountain in earnest.

You will climb Tabor under a canopy of evergreens, the road criss-crossed with dirt trails popular with runners and dog walkers. You'll see @photo[Portland's water supply](3186902) up close and personal as you pass the Tabor reservoirs on your way to the top.

Descending the east side of the mountain, you'll head east through quaint Montavilla. Stop for pizza at @poi[East Glisan](5212613), or grab a drink at the Aviary before hitting the 205 bike path and heading north to Portland's only mountain bike park, @point[Gateway Green](d,13813.49). If you have knobby tires, take a lap before continuing north and cutting back east through Sumner and Cully on your way back to Hollywood.
