If you are looking to do a gravel century plus some, this route could be a great option. Can be ridden before snow melts in higher elevations to cure those winter blues. In the summer, you can take a dip to cool down in the cold mountain water.

## A long day in the saddle that will keep your thirst for gravel quenched.

**Where to park:** @poi[Kiwanis park](7878710), or anywhere in Downtown Missoula

* You will trace the @slice[Clark Fork River](d,15452.04,58198.91) on your way out of Missoula along Southside Road. Enjoy the solitude on @slice[Fish Creek Road](d,105929.94,143056.12), and drink from many of the fresh streams that feed it. 
* Big Horn sheep can be seen along @slice[Petty Creek Road](d,59190.34,71318.47) if you are lucky!
* You will be traveling through bear country so it is never a bad idea to be prepared with bearspray. 
* Relatively moderate climbing, but a long day in the saddle. **Plan for at least 8 hours.**

# Notes

* A great ride to do in late spring, before the snow melts in higher elevations, to get you out on some Montana dirt. 
* @slice[Highway 12](d,86682.83,99089.48) doesn't have a large shoulder for riding, but it is a frequently biked road. 
* A gravel or cross bike is recommended, though a hardtail mountain bike or road/touring bike with thicker tires will suffice 
* Water sources are plenty, as you will be riding along side creeks for the majority of the ride, so you bring your filter. 
* The historic @poi[Jack Saloon](7878711) is a great place to stop for food and drinks as well. Towards the end of the loop there is also a @poi[convenience store](7878712) located in Alberton for all of your ice cream needs.
