L'Antique 200 - A cycling adventure back from ancient times

This is a route intended to avoid national highways and carry our minds and bodies to the conditions that riders(Randonneurs) experienced in the early 20th century.

Invoking times when the clock and travel times were slower. When traveling 200km on a bicycle in 13h 30m hours would be a tremendous adventure.

L'Antique 200 rediscovers local roads and paved rural paths, some requiring maintenance. They cast this adventure along the way.

# L'Antique 200 - A cycling adventure back from ancient times
This is a route intended to avoid national highways and carry our minds and bodies to the conditions that riders(Randonneurs) experienced in the early 20th century.

Invoking times when the clock and travel times were slower. When traveling 200km on a bicycle in 13h 30m hours would be a tremendous adventure.

L'Antique 200 rediscovers local roads and paved rural paths, some requiring maintenance. They cast this adventure along the way.

## Highlights of the L'Antique 200 route

**Starts in Vila Franca de Xira** - The first 50km guides us along the North shore of the Tagus river towards Santarém;

**@point[@photo[Santarem](7899724)](d,57072.47)** | km 58 |@photo[Jardim das Portas do Sol](7899735) - we will discover this fantastic garden and its esplanade a great to place to replenish energy while appreciating the excellence of the views;

**@point[@photo[Golegã](7899733)](d,92358.39)** | km 91 | The capital of the horse - the site for the gathering of breeders since the 18th century we head out to Quinta da Cardiga;

**@point[@photo[Quinta da Cardiga](7899728)](d,98034.71)** | km 97 |  A  @photo[manor house](7899728) with its origin in a 12th-century donation to the Knights Templar - formerly the site of a castle, the estate was rebuilt in the 16th century into a Renaissance rural manor. Here our paved road route is replaced by a speck of smooth dirt for a few hundred meters (no need to bring your MTB bike -:) ;

**@point[@photo[Constância](7899727)](d,110758.44)** | km 110 | The poet Luís de Camões residence - the route returning point and a unique place for a having a meal near the @photo[Zezere mouth](7899731), on a village that got its name in 1833; 
The return route takes us to the left bank of the Tagus, crossing the metal bridge, the 1st bridge built across the Tejo, dating from 1889, designed by Eiffel.

From **@point[Chamusca](d,134110.4)** km 134 | to **@point[Muge](d,176363.28)**  km 175 | The route is mostly on rural paths, some remote and hidden with poor road conditions. L'Antique reputation is no stranger to this particular atmosphere.

Amélia](d,177239.35)** | km 178 | A 1904 metal bridge that at the time of build was the longest railway bridge on the Iberian Peninsula - leads us across the Tejo and back to the North bank of the Tejo river at Porto de Muge. (Don't cycle the bridge, walk, as it can be very slippery)

The Tagus Estuary, the largest in Western Europe, covering an area of some 34,000 hectares, is a region of brackish waters and extraordinary natural and scenic interest.
