An easy paved 30-mile ride to Steven F Austin park, can be an overnighter bikepacking trip or a 60 mile round trip road training ride.

Route Details

This route is beginner-friendly, perfect as an overnighter, and even better for those who want to camp longer. It starts at @poi[Cool Cat Cycles](49531073) and follows small paved roads to Steven F Austin State Park. The park is equipped with warm showers, clean restrooms, have plenty of fresh water, electricity to recharge your batteries, and a small gift shop at the entrance. [Reserve your campsite](https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/stephen-f-austin) at Steven F Austin prior to embarking on your bike adventure.

The route will take you through the Cinco Ranch area with nice, quite, neighborhood roads and access to several grocery stores, if you need last minute purchases. The roads here do not have big shoulders but the traffic is very tame. *We recommend taking a full lane and riding in the middle of the lane, if travelling solo, or two-a-breast if travelling in agroup.*

Further down Morton Rd you enter the farmfields with very little, if any, traffic. For the remaining 20 miles you will see very few cars.

The route takes your thru a small town of Patterson with a @poi[gas station](49531074) where you can refill your nutrition and hydration. It's quite picturesque, too, being quintessential Texan small town.

As you keep getting closer to the park, you will pass a @poi[bison farm](49334094), and sometimes you can see a whole @photo[herd](11663506) in a close proximity to the road -- have your camera ready!

Getting closer to the park on the right hand side you will see a statue of Steven F Austin. There is an open air museum with a barn house, @poi[a fun stop ](49334095)before entering the park. Just across the road is an indoor history museum.

The beginner-friendly route is only 30 miles and mostly flat. A road bike, hybrid, MTB, or gravel bike will all work well for this route, as long as they can carry your camping gear.

Please note that there is no food available for sale at the state park, so you'll definitely need to bring enough food for the duration of your trip. There is however, plenty of access to potable water at the park.

Activities available at the park - perfect if you are staying for a few nights:

# Important Reminders

Please note that you will be riding in traffic, and while the roads are very quiet and safe, you need to follow Texas traffic laws, stopping at stop signs, having bike lights.

**We recommend always wearing a helmet.**

If you travel in winter months, it gets dark quite early so be prepared to set up your tent in the dark if you travel in the afternoon. Consider how much food you will need at the campsite as there is nowhere to resupply once you leave Cinco Ranch.

Bring your sunscreen and bug repellent during summer.
