Routedetails

Quiet mountain farm roads and a very challenging steep gravel climb. Good fitness is required to properly enjoy this ride. Best time to ride this route is from May - October. Gravel or x-country bicycle needed for the off road section.

Ride begins in Leysin. @photo[Very easy to arrive in Leysin from the valley.](11529396) You can take the mountain cog from the Aigle train station, they leave on the hour and it takes roughly 25 minutes to reach Leysin Feydey station.

Route begins from the center of Leysin. There are @point[two water fountains to fill up your bottles](d,344.68) and a couple grocery stores if you need to buy snacks for the ride. You'll start the ride with a gradual climb which will continue for 5.5kms. This path is popular for hikers and cyclists, and is also used by cars so pay attention on the blind corners. Be prepared to stop numerous times for photos. The view to your right is incredible of Le Chamossaire and @point[@photo[Les Diablerets](11529384)](d,2986.9). Second climb begins at 7.5kms and is roughly 4kms. Nice quiet farm road but steep. Arriving at the top is @point[@photo[Pierre du Moëllé](11529382)](d,11301.17), another great photo opportunity. Descending to @point[@photo[Lac Hongrin](11529373)](d,14395.52) you will get on a two lane road for about 10kms towards @point[La Lécherette](d,22153.72). Continuing the descent on the main road until the small village of @photo[Moulins](11529371) at 33kms, but at @photo[31kms](11529378) be sure to stop and appreciate the incredible view of @point[Château-d'Œx village at 31kms](d,30978.98). @point[Moulins](d,33214.98) would be a good place to stop and eat/hydrate because the biggest climb of the ride awaits. The next couple kms are on a steep paved path and @photo[this](11529387) will @photo[turn into gravel](11529370). I had to stop three or four times in this section because of the difficulty. It's manageable just be prepared for a serious challenge. The incline eventually flattens out a little and you are rewarded with a nice paved path which @point[connects back to the main road](d,38920.07) that you descended earlier. Passing through La Lécherette and finishing the climb in @point[Les Mosses](d,42920.84). All these small villages have public water fountains if needed. You will then descend on the two lane road for about 3.5kms and @point[turn right up a small farm road](d,45398), similar to the first section of the ride. @slice[This road will take you all the way back to Leysin.](d,45563.4,57335.17) Again, enjoy the vistas along the way!

All the small villages you pass will have cafes, restaurants, and public water fountains. Most places will take card but bring cash just in case.
