This is a splendid route with some climbing that highlights the hills and farms north of Salzburg. The majority of this route is in the open or with south-facing exposure, making it an ideal route when weather is cooler. None of this route is on well-travelled roads: the bike paths are great and the majority of the roads used are paved farm roads. The out and back to the top of the Haunsberg is worth it for the views: great panorama. The descent off the Haunsberg is the steepest part of the route, but isn't technical. The reverse of this route is really nice as well, but going anti-clockwise eliminates any very steep climbing.

Superb beginner/intermediate route featuring hills to the east of Salzburg.

The climb to Eugendorf is gentle and consistent, followed by lovely rolling meadows with some small elevation gain/loss. There is not a sustained steep climb to get to the Haunsberg, but there is a steeper sustained descent from the summit.

There are plenty of options to shorten or extend this route and ride all over the hills that are alive: almost all the roads in the area are low use, and cars are very good about giving cyclists room and pass appropriately.

Points on interest on this route:
1) @slice[Bike path to Eugendorf](d,2427.04,12054.84)
This bike way is superb. It's a multi-use path with gentle slope and excellent scenery that takes you from the Salzach River to the edge of Eugendorf. There are a few intersections at minor roads where you might see cars, but otherwise it is only pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Great exit from the city of Salzburg to the surrounding countryside.

This is the highest point on the route, and also the location of a memorial to Kaiser Josef II from a visit in 1779. It has great views @photo[(Salzburg from Kaiserbuche)](13678228) of the surrounding countryside.
