Route Details

This ride will offer unique benefits depending on the season you ride it.  In the early spring, a lack of foliage provides clear views of some spectacular vistas. In late spring, the leaves are out and sections of forest are filled with gorgeous white trillium flowers.  In summer, the water in Georgian Bay warms up and you'll have a number of opportunities to dip your feet.  In the fall, the autumn colours steal the show.

Your ride starts out at Penetanguishene Town Dock.  From the @slice[boat launch ramp](d,0,56.91) behind the Dock Lunch restaurant, head toward Main Street, and connect to the @point[Rotary Waterfront Trail](d,57.99) on your right, just before you reach Main Street. Follow the trail through the park until it connects with @slice[Robert Street](d,1326.06,2365.04). You will be riding a gradual climb up Robert Street where it turns sharply to the left and becomes Overhead Bridge Road. Continue the gradual ascent on Overhead Bridge Road, then turn left onto Golflink Road. Follow Golflink until you turn right onto Wilson Road. Wilson road features a @slice[punchy climb](d,6585.48,6846.92) that is a real hallmark of road riding in the Heart of Georgian Bay. As you crest the climb, catch your breath, and look to the right for a great view over Nottawasaga Bay. Wilson becomes Marshall when you cross over Balm Beach Road.  Enjoy the @slice[straight high speed descent](d,8215.31,9795.44) on Marshall, then turn right onto [Angela Schmidt Foster](http://www.skimuseum.ca/biodata.php?lang=en&id=39) Road (named after a local cross country skier, who was the dominant force in XC skiing in North America in the mid-1980's).

Next, turn left onto Baseline Road, and follow it until you turn right onto Concession 6.  Concession 6 ends at Skylark Road, turn right andfollow Skylark onto Tiny Beaches Road. @slice[Tiny Beaches Road](d,22003.8,32958.66) is a mecca for road cyclists in The Heart of Georgian Bay. The road has good pavement and winds along the contours of the shorline of Nottawasaga Bay. The road undulates a bit, but is mostly flat, and a joy to ride. There are several access points to public sections of the beaches at @poi[Jackson Park](725324), @poi[Concession 9](1122003), @poi[Balm Beach](1116257), and @poi[Wahnekewaning Beach](1116260). There is a bit of a hidden gem as you cross the @poi[bridge near Concession 14](1116256). The river below is a provincial fish sanctuary, and you may spot fish spawning in the river in April or May.

When you turn right onto Concession 15 you have a @slice[long gradual climb](d,32362.79,39741.51) ahead of you.  Enjoy the views as you climb toward the @poi[highest point](1116259) in The Heart of Georgian Bay.  All that climbing gives way to a @slice[fun descent](d,39741.51,44024.57) back into Penetanguishene.
