A ride from Fond Du Lac east on the fully PAVED Old Plank Road Trail (the route planner shows a few segments as unpaved) to Greenbush heading south on the scenic drive thru the northern section of the Kettle Moraine State Forest to Long Lake and the town of Dundee turning northwest returning to Fond Du Lac

A mostly paved route, with only one short segment, about 3 miles, of crushed limestone bike path that @poi[begins in the Long Lake recreational area](149381132) and @poi[ends in Dundee on Hwy 67](149381133), even though the route planner shows a few segments that are unpaved. Once riding on the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive sections, there are a few short, punchy climbs, @poi[with the steepest grade just over 10%](149381047), but most of the hills are the rolling mid-west type.  This is a full day ride due to all the scenic views and points of interests that many riders will want to stop, at least briefly, to enjoy.  The route begins and ends at the @poi[Winnebago Park and Ride](149297983), which is free parking lot for bike riders.  The ride is probably best suited for intermediate to advanced riders due to the length and the overall amount of elevation gain.  The best times of year to ride this route would be in late spring to early summer and late summer to early fall because during the peak summer season the Kettle Moraine State Forest regions are very busy with tourists and outdoor recreationalists of all types, which means the narrow, little to no shoulder roads that make up the Kettle Moraine Scenic Route will be fairly busy especially on weekends, but also the other county and state hwys will also be pretty busy with vehiclur traffic.  During the peak summer time, I would recommend this route on Tuesdays - Thursdays to get a more peaceful riding experience with less traffic.

This route starts off on the @photo[fully paved Prairie Trail](17037703) and then turns east onto the @photo[fully paved Old Plank Road Trail](17037744), both of which are separate from the highways they parallel.  AT Greenbush, the route transtions onto county and state paved roads that make up the @photo[Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive](17037749), these roads @photo[may](17037778) or @photo[may not](17037756) have shoulders, and some may just have segments with paved shoulders; however it's the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive that is the gem of this route and the portion where most riders will probably do their most stopping to take in the sights.  Which could be the @photo[Wade House](17037746) @photo[Historical property](17038540) and @photo[Museum ](17040870).  The @photo[Greenbush Recreational area](17037758) in the @photo[Kettle Moraine State Forest](17037759) to take in the hiking and mountain biking trails, such as a [short hike to climb](https://maps.app.goo.gl/LPAq56HQtwShMgZg7) up the @poi[Parnell Fire Tower](149383840), but a @photo[trail pass](17037760) is required and can be purchased at the picnic area.  Or maybe stopping at the @photo[Long Lake Recreational Area](17037766) to enjoy it's @photo[trails](17037771), parks and @photo[views of Long Lake](17037769). Then there's the little village of Dundee that has several options for dining and taking a break from the saddle, such as @poi[3 Sweets Bakery](149299365), @poi[Camp Dundee Bar & Grill](149299366), @poi[McJugger's Saloon and Grill](149299367), @poi[The Hamburger Haus](149299368), @poi[The Dundee Roadhouse Bar & Grill](149299369) and @poi[Dundee Mountain BBQ and Brew House](149382027).  Keep in mind that the Hamburger Haus and Dundee Mountain BBQ are seasonal, and the Hamburger Haus only takes cash.

After leaving the village of Dundee riding north on State Hwy 67, which does have a paved shoulder the whole segment, the ride truns west on County Rd. B, which usually does not have a paved shoulder (only occassionally, it's weird) and can be rather busy, but in Armstrong on Cty Rd. B the rider, if they're looking to stop again the from the short little punching climbs to get up higher from the Long Lake shore, they might consider the @poi[Armstrong Orchard, Cafe, gift shop and Spoonlicker's Ice Cream](149299370), which is the last services before riding into Eden.  The segment between Armstrong and Eden is the rolling dairy land region, and both County Rd B, without a shoulder most of the time, and US 45, which does have a shoulder, can be pretty busy.  Both roads are pretty exposed without a lot a tree cover so headwinds can be a factor.  Once riding into Eden, again there are a lot options to stop and get refreshed. There are three Bar and Grills to choose from: @poi[2Fer's](149299375), @poi[Scud's Buds](149299376), both in town and the @poi[Outpost Bar & Grill](149299377) just north of Eden.  There's also the @poi[Eden Cafe](149299372) and @poi[Eden Meat market](149299373) and @poi[Paddy's Pizza](149299374) just off the route to the west on Cty Rd. V.

From Eden it's about 7 miles back to the Winnebago Park & Ride along Hwy 45, Cty Rd. 4, 4th Street Rd (aka Cty Rd. T) and the Prairie Trail.

Both Schmitty's and the Backyard are owned by the same folks, but their menus are different and the daily specials are too, and it's sometimes hard to known which it better.  For me it goes back and forth, but since Schmitty's is closer to home...

# Important Reminders

* This ride is full day ride for most riders with some short, but punchy climbs, in a few areas so keep that in mind, espcially if it's a hot and humid day.

* Once turning off the Old Plank Road Trail, the paved roads for the remainder of the route can be narrow and without shoulders, and while most traffic is polite and yeilds a wide berth for bike riders, the rider should be very comfortable riding with and in traffic for this route.

* Both on the paved trails heading east to the Kettle Moraine State Forest and on the paved roads heading west back to Fond Du Lac the ride will be mostly exposed without a lot of shade.  Bring your sun sleeves or sunscreen, wide brim hats or visors, water and be prepared for winds.  The typical winds in this area are from the west or east so a good portion of this route will have both headwind and tailwind components, which in the exposed segments will make the ride a little slower and faster.
