Nice 40 mile out-and-back road ride with one significant climb to "high point" and option of riding either to El Porvenir and Ev long campground or both.

This is a paved road ride with one @slice[moderately steep](d,10667.01,14503.15) climb shortly into the ride. A good starting point is the Plaza or down Highway 65 at the @poi[Hot Springs of Montezuma](1121405). There is roadside parking in both areas. The significant climb is only a half-mile from the Hot Springs. This is an out-and-back ride, so make it as long or short as you please. You can probably do this route year round, although short lived storms roll in more frequently during the winter, so check the weather report.

There are no bike lanes on this route, but for the most part traffic is sparse and friendly. @slice[The quarter mile you spend on Mills](d,1037.23,1617.14) will be the most traffic as it is a main street, @point[and turning left across four lanes can be hectic, so be very cautious](d,1592.79).

The road is in pretty great condition, but at narrow curves gravel is often brought up onto the pavement. Pot holes are present, but easily avoidable.

This is a great route if you like a little challenge in the form of a climb and being rewarded with scenic views of Gallinas Canyon and Hermit Peak. There are bathrooms at @poi[El Porvenir Campground](1121404), but no where for water or food, so pack accordingly.
