Day One of a four day bike tour from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin traveling west to meet up with and ride along the Wisconsin River north to Stevens Point before turning east to ride through Waupaca, Fremont and Oshkosh back to Fond du Lac.

This route is day one of a four day bike tour beginning in Fond du Lac traveling west to meet up with the Wisconsin River to follow it north for 90 miles to Plover/Stevens Point.  Day three rides from Plover/Stevens Point to Fremont following the Tomorrow River, Waupaca River, Crystal River and Wolf Rivers through Amherst, Waupaca, near Weyauwega, and Fremont for a short day of 46 miles staying at the Blue Top Resort and Campground on Partridge Lake and the Wolf River in Fremont.  Day four is also relatively short only 52 miles from Fremont through Oshkosh back to Fond du Lac. Day one begins in Fond du Lac the ride heads west through the towns of Ripon, Green Lake, Princeton, Montello, Packwaukee and Oxford before ending at @poi[Deep Lake Campground](157996052) just off Wisconsin State Highway 82 about 12 miles east of the Wisconsin River.  Day one's route is primarily on paved county roads and state highways with some @photo[short sections on crushed limestone bike trails](18230775).  It's a rolling route without any seriously steep or long climbs, with the steepest grade of 5.5% on a short hill as the route climbs up and out of the town of Ripon.

The day one route begins at Lake Side Park in Fond du Lac on the west park or Supple Marsh side of Lake Side Park.  There are a few places to park, there is a main paved parking lot off of Howard Litscher Dr. where the public boat ramp is located, or a little farther down Howard Litscher Dr. is a small gravel parking lot near the pedestrian and cycling bridge connects the two sides of Lake Side Park over a branch of the Fond du Lac River. A little over four miles riding down W. Scott St., aka County Rd OOO, ends at County Rd. I.  turning right to ride a very short distance to the parking lot of the Mascoutin Valley State Park Trail, a converted rail trail of crushed limestone, the route utilizes this rail trail for about seven miles at the town of Rosedale.  The rail trail ends when it intersects with State Hwy 26.  This is often a very busy road to cross.  I@poi[ suggest crossing straight across Hwy 26 where the trail meets the highway.](159942833) There is a double track gravel drive directly across from the trail end that will lead to W. Rose-Eld Road rather than trying to turn right onto a very busy Hwy 26 to almost immediately try to turn left onto W. Rode-Eld Rd. for about 4 miles turning onto State Hwy 23 for another 4 miles before entering the city of Ripon. State Hwy 23 can be busy but there is a wide shoulder for bikes to safely ride. In Ripon the route travels along rolling, paved county roads for about 15 miles through the cute city of @photo[Green Lake](18230781).  There are many places to stop in Green Lake for something to eat or drink to take a break from the saddle.  I stopped at @photo[Sassafras Specialties as coffee shop](18230782) that serves @photo[various sweet and savory treats](18230773). There is also @poi[Scoot's Cafe](159943766) near the water.  There are several other options in Green Lake a quick internet search will reveal.

The continues on paved county roads riding out of Green Lake, the rider will transition back to riding on State Hwy 23 just outside of the city of Princeton, which also has several options for stopping, probably the most popular place in Princeton that gets a lot of great reviews is the @poi[Horseradish Kitchen.](159943916), but there's also @poi[Beer Belly's Bar and Grill](159943915) and @poi[Molly's Buckhorn Bar and Grill](159943917) and as you ride out of town, consider one last stop at the @poi[Ice Bowl for some ice cream](157995815).  Riding out of Princeton the route is again following State Hwy 23 to @photo[Montello](18230784).

Montello has the @photo[granite park](18230785) with it's @photo[waterfalls](18230786) a great scenic stop to sit and relax for a moment, and right next to the park is a @poi[Kwik Trip](157995818) making it a double whammy to refill water bottles, pick up a snack and use the restroom. Montello has a few choices for a meal stop as well.  On the route along Montello St there's @poi[River's Edge Saloon & Eatery](159977578), @poi[Oyster Cracker's Cafe](159977577), @poi[Granite Falls Restaurant](159977579) and @poi[Yahooz Sport's Bar & Grill](159977580).  Just south of the route on Main Street in Montello are two additional choices, @poi[Table 15 Cafe](159977581) and @poi[Kathleen's Flour Bin Bakery](159977582). The route out of Montello gets off State Hwy 23 and onto County Rd. C riding along Buffalo Lake to Pakwaukee.  I didn't see any buffalo along @photo[Buffalo Lake](18230789) the day I rode this route, but that doesn't mean there aren't any to be seen. but there were plenty of @photo[scenic](18230788) views riding along the @photo[lake shore](18230790) lined with cabins.  In Pakwaukee there is a bridge that crosses over Buffalo Lake that offers some nice @photo[views](18230793) of the @photo[lake and shore lines](18230794).

From Pakwaukee the route turns onto County Rd. D for the segment into Oxford, the last town before riding out to the overnight stop at @poi[Deep Lake Campground](157996052).  Oxford has a @poi[convenience store](157995819) and a @poi[Dollar General](157995820) there is a @poi[Bar & Grill ](159977828)in town as well.  Deep Lake Campground doesn't have a campground store so if you're looking to stock up on a few items Oxford is the last opportunity to do so before the campground.

[Deep Lake Campground](https://deeplakecampground.com/) does have a nice @photo[beach area ](18230799)with a swimming @photo[area and driving platform,](18230802) it also makes a couple of kayaks and a @photo[paddle boat](18230806) available for guests, which I did take the paddle boat out for a spin around the lake.  Next to the campground office is a campground community building with a lounging area with games and puzzles for the kids, showers and restrooms, and bags of ice and firewood bundles for sale.  The building serves as the storm shelter for campers in severe weather events.  There are about five or six tent sites that are situated off by themselves away from the RV sites, and all sites have have access to a water spigot, that serves all of the sites, a fire ring and picnic table for each site.  In the morning the tent sites are located close to the secondary entrance and exit of the property making it a quick get away on day two of the tour to get back on State Hwy 82 to meet up with the Wisconsin River.
