Route Details

Starting (and finishing) at the @point[Millenium Trail Parking Area](d,14.37), this route follows mostly paved roads with some time on paved bike path. It serves as a good training ride with some short steep climbs. The climbs, while challenging, are nothing an intermediate cyclist in reasonable condition couldn't summit in short order.

Spanning approximately 70 miles, plan for 4 hours in the saddle at 16-17 mph average pace. It's recommended to start no later than 8:00am to avoid mid-day traffic. Spring, Summer, and autumn, dry condition riding is best. So, unless your bike handling skills are sharp, skip this ride in foul weather.

* Start at the @point[Millenium Trail Parking Area](d,14.37)
* Route goes through Lake County Forest Preserve, bound for @point[Timber Lake](d,4525.19)
* Passing around @slice[Timber Lake](d,4777.7,5188.35), prepare for the first challenging climb at mile 3
* Follow route West to the East bank of the @point[Fox River](d,14714.14), passing by The Broken Oar Bar and Grill at mile 8.75
* Crossing the @point[Fox River](d,14714.14) on Rawson Bridge, prepare for @slice[some rollers](d,15189.44,25965.66) as you ascend out of the river basin
* A @slice[swift descent](d,30190.24,31137.61) to enjoy as you prepare for the left turn at the bottom of the descent
* Enter @slice[Sternes Woods Park](d,31474.5,33785.35), southbound, via the trailhead at mile 19.5. There are some challenging rollers in the woods. Keep an eye out for other trail users. The trail can be slippery if wet
* The route @slice[descends into the creek basin](d,50287.89,52096.41) at Boone creek. The first @slice[climb, of two](d,52096.41,52701.58) starts at approximately mile 32
* Drop into the basin at @slice[Boone Creek](d,52701.58,53939.45) a second time at mile 33. Prepare for a half mile of climbing, up the 15-20% grade of "@slice[The Wall](d,53939.45,54538.3)"
* Travel on the route, Northbound to the Northernmost tip of @point[Wonder Lake](d,73809.83). Rest at the "@poi[Creekside Country Store](1516218)" at mile 41
* Follow the route Eastbound to cross the @point[Fox River](d,90862.8) a second time at mile 56
* Follow the route through @slice[the rolling terrain of Lakemoor and Volo](d,92260.16,110070.52) back to the start
