The Amana Colonies are one of the top tourist destinations in Iowa. Now, they have signed two gravel bike routes for you to enjoy.

Routedetails

The first [Amana Colonies](http://www.amanacolonies.com/) Gravel Bike Routes are ready for use. The routes each begin in Middle Amana, separating into the longer Route A going to West Amana and the shorter [Route B](http://ridewithgps.com/routes/10124181) going to High Amana. While on the gravel routes, the riders will experience historical points of interest in Middle Amana, @poi[High Amana](1524407), and @poi[West Amana](1524408).

The Amana Colonies are a set of seven historic villages spaced approximately 7 miles apart. In latter days, the villages were communal with families living, working, and eating together. In 1932, the Amana Society chose to abandoned the communal ways. It has become a top tourism attraction in Iowa with over 1 million visitors per year.

Route A begins in Middle Amana at the entrance to the [Amana Colonies Golf Course](http://www.amanagolfcourse.com/), riders will travel to West Amana. This route is more challenging and approximately a 17 mile round trip. West Amana features Iowa’s Largest Walnut Rocking Chair, Basket and Broom Shop, Opa’s Tractor Museum, Michele Maring Miller Studio and Gallery, and the landscape that inspired Grant Wood to paint his famous Young Corn.

## ROUTE

* Park at the [Amana Colonies Golf Club](http://www.amanagolfcourse.com/)
* Route starts on pavement, but turns to gravel at 126th Street
* Travel to West Amana through native timber
* Return through High Amana along paved road
* Visit the historic [High Amana General Store](http://www.amanacolonies.com/city/amana-colonies/listing/high-amana-general-store/)
* Finish your @poi[ride with a beer](1524409) at [Millstream Brewing](http://www.millstreambrewing.com/) - you can get there by trail if you want a longer ride

## NOTES

* This ride is on gravel, so bring an appropriate bicycle.
* A shorter **[Route B](http://ridewithgps.com/routes/10124181)** is available and overlaps Route A. 
* Beverage service is available at the @poi[Amana Golf Club](1524410) at the start of ride.
