This is a scenic out-and-back starting out on multi-use trail before hitting some of the best gravel roads in all of Idaho. This is a somewhat challenging but rewarding ride. Stop at Easley Hot Springs along the way, and enjoy a hot meal at Galena lodge when you reach the halfway point.

Easily the best out n' back I have ever done. The perspective from both directions is unique, and awesome. You spend almost the entire time on pristine double track, winding through the Big Wood River valley, in and out of pine forests, and it's entirely car free. And don't let the elevation fool you. You'll be having so much fun and be taking so many pictures that you won't even know you are gradually riding uphill!

The route starts at @poi[Java On Fourth in town](1532084). Afer a mandatory Bowl of Soul, the @slice[route heads north out of town on the Wood River Trail for 3 miles](d,0,4894.97), Sun Valley's excellent pedestrian only path that circumvents the area. The trail ends and you hop on Highway 75 for @slice[the next 5 miles](d,4973.07,13340.87) until you hit the @point[Harriman Trailhead](d,13352.81) on your @photo[left](1276730).

The trail will wind you along the Big Wood River for a while as you gently gain elevation. It parallels highway 75 pretty much the entire way, but the scenery is so beautiful and feeling so remote, you'll hardly even know it's there. You'll wind in and out of forest, sweep along constant S curves offering a different view around every bend, and even a little @slice[technical section](d,41060.87,43517.39) just before you reach the turnaround point at @photo[Galena Lodge](1276737).

After refueling, you head right back down the way you came, except now it's all slightly downhill. As fun as it is to fly back down, it will be hard with the new perspective you get coming back from the other direction. I actually end up taking more pictures on the way down as you get a better view looking back down into the valley. Follow the trail back to the start, hop on Highway 75, get off at the Wood River Trail, and you'll be right back in town where you started. If you leave first thing in the morning, [Johnny G's Sub Shack](http://www.johnnygsubshack.com/) is a great place to end the ride to grab lunch.

## Miscellaneous Notes
I ride 35c tires on this which is perfect. I wouldn't recommend going smaller than 32c.

2 full water bottles on this ride should be fine, and you can always refuel at @poi[Galena Lodge](1532081) (the turnaround point).

The trail gets slightly technical for a brief period @slice[here](d,41105.56,43831.54), but other than that the gravel is in excellent condition.
