Route Details

A scenic, challenging route through the Kentucky countryside. This route starts and ends at @point[Floyds 
Fork Park](d,15.04) where there is ample parking, restrooms and water fountains for topping up water bottles. Keep Floyds Fork Park in mind for a return visit and exploration. Floyds Fork is just one part of the growing sytems of [The Parklands](http://www.theparklands.org/)

Heading out of the Park towards Finchville, KY the route stays on Hwy 148 for the first 18 miles. Continuing on Hempridge Rd. and Bardstown Trail ending up at the first store stop at mile 28 in @point[Waddy, KY](d,44931.53), a fully stocked Truck Stop with just about anything you would need.

Around about mile 31 the route becomes a bit hillier with a few punchy short climbs. At mile 32.5 @point[*the route crosses US 60, a fairly busy highway*](d,51996.44) then onto Mink Run Rd., then Stockton Rd. At mile 38 the route turns onto Devils Hollow Rd. The next few miles are some of the most beutiful areas of the ride. At mile 41 you cross over Benson Creek, there is a waterfall to the right and the old, old bridge known as @point[Red Bridge](d,66259.19), built in 1896 and by-passed in 1980 with the new bridge.

@point[At mile 44 there is a store](d,70577.8) if a stop is desired. Here the route merges with Hwy 127, a four lane road but this is a 40 mph downhill so you get to the bottom quickly. It is a smooth, gentle decent into the [Kentucky River](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kentucky_River) area. The route crosses over the KY River and into part of Downtown Frankfort, and crossing the river again on Capital Avenue. Straight ahead is the [State Capital](http://www.kentuckytourism.com/kentucky-state-capitol/1594/) area. Frankfort is full of [historical sites](http://www.visitfrankfort.com/historical-sites.html) Take your time here, the route loops all the way around the State Capital. Sights include: [The Floral Clock](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floral_clock_%28Frankfort,_Kentucky%29), [The Govenors Mansion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kentucky_Governor's_Mansion), and the 360 degree view around the State Capital Building.

Time to head to the lunch stop. The route follows the Ky River for a few miles of flat rolling, then at mile 49 @slice[a little 1.5 mile climb stands between you and lunch](d,78931.5,81271.16). The climb is along a busy hwy with a wide shoulder. At the top there are @point[numerous options for lunch](d,81353.94). Most of the time Qdoba wins out.

Across a busy intersection and you are headed back. Due to a store closure in this rural area the route follows a different path back, but we end up again at the Waddy Stop. Once you make the turn onto Pea Ridge Rd. the elevation profile is downhill, but there are still rollers to encounter. At mile 80 the return route retraces the earlier route back to Floyds Fork Park.
