Route Details

This is another one of VeloDirt's signature routes.

Route:

  • Beginning in beautiful downtown The Dalles, the route crosses into Washington, climbs the ever spectacular Dalles Mountain Road and then loops back around on mostly lightly traveled roads.

  • The route stays on good gravel and paved roads. The only bummer sections are dropping down US-97 and crossing the bridge back to Biggs. At least they are both over quickly. Expect about 30% dirt.

  • This route has been ridden on just about every bike that exists. Dedicated gravel bike, road bike with skinnys, fatbike, you name it. There is no optimal tire or bike style, as everyone has their own preferences. Go with what you feel comfortable on, which for most people will be a cross or road bike with 28-32c tires.

  • Our only warning is to avoid windy days. Check the forecast - the last thing you want is to be tired and pusing back through a 30 mph headwind. The area is chock full of windmills for a reason...
