Route Details

With hundreds of rides to choose from, there is bound to be a favorite.  This is it.  A perfect distance from Sharon for a Sunday ride, particularly in early and late season, with just the right mix of rolling hills, fields and the @photo[spectacular view](1609878) from the Diamond Hill Reservoir dam, this is it.  On the right day, you will fall in love with cycling right here.

The northeast corner of Rhode Island, and the Massachusetts towns that border it, are quiet, scenic, and cycling-friendly.

We depart Sharon using the back roads to get across the major obstacle of Rt 140, and go through the quiet (on weekend mornings) industrial park that surrounds it.  We pop out the other side on West St, which takes us toward Rt 152 for a crossing of I-95, and then an immediate left onto Landry Ave, which is a bit of a climb.

On the other side of the hump, we cross North Attleboro and get out into the great wide-open fields of @photo[Ellis Rd](1609873).  A quick descent down N Attleboro Rd, and you are in the fantastically-named "Sneech Pond" area.  What is a *sneech*, anyway?

Then it is across the reservoir, where it is almost imperative to stop for a snack and take in the view from both sides.  The reservoir is fun to watch as the seasons go by, the water level constantly changing.  The lake is large enough that being completely frozen over is a sign of deep winter.

After the dam, the other side is Burnt Swamp Road, another great name, and another idyllic road that unfortunately has seen creeping development in recent years, and even hosts a "@photo[derelict house](1609877)", a great architectural job, but for unknown reasons, sits unfinished in the middle of a field.

The direct trip home includes a stretch of Rt 140, which was an obstacle to avoid in Mansfield earlier, is here a rather nice road with a wide shoulder.  We leave that and skirt the major Patriot's Place development on Rt 1, which includes Gillette Stadium.

# Notes
This is a particularly good ride in the foliage season (mid to late October), because of the wide open views.

On Sundays in the fall, when the Patriots are playing at home, the road crossing at @point[Rt 1 and Pine St](d,59704.92) is closed several hours before game time.  Many other Rt 1 crossings are closed as well.  The easiest workaround is to follow 140 into Foxborough instead of going on Everett Street.
