# Route

This is a very easy ride around the Colonial Williamsburg (CW) Historic Area and through The College of William & Mary. The route is very flat.  Most of the route in the CW area is closed to vehicular traffic.  However, the route around the College of William & Mary traverses streets with light traffic.  The ride starts in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg known as @slice["Merchant's Square"](d,0,92.24).  This is the more commerical section of CW at the top of Duke of Glouscester Street (aka "DOG" street).  Parking can be found on many lots adjacent to Merchant Square and is generally available in the @poi[parking garage on N. Henry Street](2291990).

Pick up a *Colonial Williamsburg This Week* guide at the @poi[ticket office](2291991), corner of Duke of Gloucester and Henry Streets - it will help identify the many buildings, gardens and attractions in the historic area.  Pay attention to the map and cues, as many of the road names, particularly in the historic area, are not marked.  By following the tour as described, you'll pass near or in front of practically every major historic building.  Keep in mind, that in order to enter the historic buildings, you will need to purchase a ticket.  Cycling thrugh the area and entering shops and restaurants, however, is permissible and free of charge.  The second half of the route will take you through the beautiful campus of The College of William & Mary, before passing the Williamsburg Lodge and Inn on the way back to Merchants Square.  Restrooms are available at the @poi[ticket office](2291991) near the ride start and at many places along the route.

Casual and excellent eateries are available in Merchant Square for a meal or a drink after the ride.  Halfway through the ride, you'll also find @poi[several deli/cafes](2290823). Local favorites on Merchant Square are The Cheese Shop and the Dog Street Pub.
