Getting Started Overnite Touring - Show & Tell Gathering
Created by:
Bicycle Network Tasmania
Sun. May 8 8:30AM
Location: Salamanca Square & South Hobart Playground
An introduction to overnite touring and an opportunity to meet others who share that interest.
Share a cuppa if you like, then a short ride, followed by 2 hours show & tell about all things bicycle touring.
Maybe also arrange an easy introductory overniter ride from there.
We'll organise a few short talks with plenty of opportunity to chat and ask questions. Topics could include:
- What kind of bicycle? Do I need another bike?
- What gear?
- The $10 garage sale touring bike
- Packing a bike for a flight
- Folding bike touring
- eBike touring
- The joys of camping, the pleasures of more sophisticated accommodation
Would be great if everyone brings bikes they use for touring (or are thinking about using them) and gear they already have.
You could also bring morning tea nibbles, a thermos or maybe a stove to brew something fresh, and a chair. There's a BBQ at the playground for those who may want to linger on for lunch.
Bring clothing appropriate to the weather. There is a good sized overhang in front of the community centre to stand under if needed in case of a passing downpour.
If the weather looks too bad (hopefully unlikely) we may change venue or date.
If you want to be kept in the loop about that please let me know that you are planning to come, preferably by email (andreas@ahack.org, 0488 542 670).
Meet Sunday 8 May 8.30 am at the Machine Laundry Cafe (https://www.facebook.com/Machine-Laundry-Cafe-113296732063100/) for a cuppa and chat before we trundle off to the gathering place.
Or meet us at 10.00 am at the South Hobart Playground on the grassy area between the playground and the South Hobart Community Centre (https://www.hobartcity.com.au/Community/Parks-reserves-and-sporting-facilities/Find-a-park-or-sportsground/South-Hobart-Playground, https://www.southhobart.org.au/south-hobart-community-centre)

TERMS & CONDITIONS
Be aware: Please don’t come if you are at all unwell or have symptoms of becoming unwell.
Our social rides leaders are following a set of protocols to help make our rides compliant with government directions:
- Meeting places for rides will have plenty of space for people to maintain 1.5 to 2 metre distancing while unloading bikes, listening to the briefing, and getting ready to ride.
- Coffee spots will be outdoors or very well ventilated, and people will wear masks when sitting together so everyone feels comfortable.
- Riders are asked to register online or via phone so there is no paper being handed around on the day.
- People are asked not to attend rides if they have fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath or runny nose.
In registering for one of our Club rides you are agreeing with these statements:
I agree to abide by the physical distancing rules as explained by the ride leader.
I understand that participation in bicycle rides involves riding on public roads used by other traffic and I am aware of the hazards involved in that and in riding bicycles in general. In my judgement, I/my family have sufficient competence and experience to participate safely in such riding. I/my family agree to comply with all road rules and to directions given by Tasmania Police or event organisers. I will take responsibility for any children under the age of 16 years who are in my care on the ride. I hereby release, exempt and indemnify the organisers, sponsors and all other persons involved in the event/s from all liability whether in negligence or otherwise which may arise in connection with the participation of myself/ my family in these events. The organisers reserve the right to refuse entry. The organisers may vary the route or venues without notice. I am happy to be contacted with information about membership of Bicycle Network.
