We will meet at the Pelverata Hall around 9.30am - 9.45am ready to leave at 10am. Your ride leader will be David Atkinson.
On this ride you are agreeing to the Terms and Conditions (as indicated above).
Half the course has a smooth surface and the old tramway track itself can be a little muddy depending on prior weather conditions and bumpy in parts but certainly accessible. There could be a nosy snake on the track so come with full length tough jeans or similar - we will take a snake bite kit.
We leave the road at Kaoota then follow the disused Sandfly Colliery Tramway which was originally a 20 km, 2 ft narrow gauge tramway linking Kaoota coal mine to Margate. Constructed in 1905–06, the tramway climbed 457 m above sea level and crossed ten bridges. After coal mining ceased, the tramway was used to transport logs, fruit and passengers. The line was dismantled in 1922. Look at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58XTYQYslfE
After the ride we finish with coffee in Margate.
