Long and scenic route north-west from Málaga.
Gentle start to Almogía and hard sections close to La Joya will bring us to amazing scenery of three lakes inland.
Passing the lakes you will meet another jewel, natural gorge in El Chorro.
Last part is almost all time invisible descent.

Routedetails

This is one of the many scenic loops behind Málaga; a moderate ride including one harder pass called ***La Joya*** and then spectacular views around lakes ***Guadalhorce***  topped by a downhill to the village @point["*El Chorro*"](d,88101.81), where you can see the amazing natural gorge, ***Desfiladero de los Gaitanes***.

The ride starts in the town centre heading north-west slowly up. Outside the city starts the suave climbs along the lake @slice[***Casasola***](d,16251,21351.01) until village @point["*Almogía*"](d,23962.48). There is one @point[fountain](d,23381.63) at the beginning of village to fill up water and see the amazing views.

Later the surface undulates and after 15 km comes to the turn for village @point[*"La Joya"*](d,39490.16). Go left and enjoy the @slice[climb over the village until the pass.](d,39575.04,51678.33) There are some steep slopes during the climb but always short.  Views from pass @point[***La Joya***](d,51962.84) are amazing!!! The downhill is fast.  For additional services take a left on road A-343 for 8 km towards village *"Valle del Abdalajis"*. Then be careful with the turn for lakes; it @point[crosses with an unnamed road](d,64051.75) and displays signs for "*Estación de Gobantes*".

You will climb a bit and then the undulating road will lead you over the railtrack to the other lost crossroad next to the first lake. Turn left towards @point[*Embalses de Guadalhorce.*](d,69773.63) Enjoy the impressive views for almost 15 km during the ride @slice[along all three lakes](d,69816.05,82108.2). On the crown of the oldest lake there are restaurants to get @point[refreshment](d,79419.49).

The last section is a descent into the valley of the river ***Guadalhorce*** where the village *El Chorro* is located and above all, the famous gorge @point[***Desfiladero de los Gaitanes***](d,86563.4) dominates the landscape. You can see the last part where a bridge is uniting the walls of this narrow gorge: impressive!!!

The last 50 km are easy and still down to valley behind Málaga and the city proper.

# Important Reminders

It is a beautiful route, and bear in mind that from Almogía until crown of lakes it is hard to get any refreshment. You can enter any village close to the route, but not always you can rely on that.
Here are some **"possible"** points of refreshment:

* Villanueva de la Concepción
* La Joya
* Valle del Abdalajís
