Route Details

As with many of [bici-almeria](http://bici-almeria.com) routes we start in our home base town of @point[Sorbas](d,244.93) where parking is plentiful and their are a couple of very nice roadside bars to grab a pre-ride coffee in the morning sunshine. @photo[El Fogon](755338)
After a brief downhill blast through the Sorbas gorge we take a left a climb steeply on the A1101 to Lubrin. This beautifully smooth road climbs steadily after the initial ramp and is hemmed in by almond and olive groves. @photo[A1101 to Lubrin](755339) About 13km from Sorbas we hang a right and start the first of our 'classified' climbs as featured in the [2015 Clasica Almeria](http://clasicadealmeria.net/2015/itinerario/) pro race (won by Britain's Mark Cavendish) - the @slice[Alto de Lubrin](d,13342.38,14719.63) which peaks out at 705m - we are already 300m above Sorbas where we started! A fast technical descent follows and from the hairpins it is possible to see the second of the 'classified' climbs scarring the mountainside to the right @slice[Alto de El Chive](d,17817.13,20992.57) This is a relatively new climb for bici-almeria guests @photo[El Chive](755336) as it was only re-surfaced in 2012 @photo[El Chive TT](755369)- we now use it as a tour trip time-trial as 3.9km @ 6.9% is a perfect test without becoming a brutal slog!  In this ride we descend back down El Chive and rejoin the 'main' road at Lubrin before turning right and up the Alto de Bedar - @slice[this is the climb](d,30277.31,32899.24) that The Lotto Jumbo pro team use for their lactate/VO2 testing at their winter camps in January. They do 5-6 repititions, we only have to climb it once. Then some recovery time as the ride plummets @photo[rapidly downhill ](755332)for the next 15km through the hillside village of @point[Bedar](d,38122.87) where it is a good idea to stop for coffee and a tostado at @photo[Bar Cortijo, Bedar ](755324)
The next 15km are gently rolling through amazingly fragrant orange groves and onto the small town of @point[Antas](d,55298.6) and then we begin the steady climb back into the hills! Before ascending, you can detour slightly and visit Cocina Angel - take a right at the big @point[El Real roundabout](d,57472.58) and the bar is on the right before you reach the motorway bridge @photo[this is a good place to take on lunch](755323)
Returning to our route we then continue through extensive orange groves up what is known as Broken River Road, as many of the small bridges were washed away by flooding ramblas in winter 2013 - (all repaired now) After steadily rising for about 10km, the road suddenly goes @slice[snake-like and vertical](d,68526.88,71329.88) as some great switchbacks appear in front of us. At the @photo[t-junction we head back towards Lubrin](755328)  
From here we climb back to @point[Lubrin](d,81891.01) and back up the Alto de Lubrin we came down earlier before retracing our route on a fast sweeping dash back to Sorbas and a welcome drink at @photo[Sol de Andalucia](755342).
