## **Local favorite. Riding eastbound on 19th from Stillwater pipes you into one of the main gravel thoroughfares of the area.**

A rule of thumb in the goodbook of Stillwater gravel is this: if  need to get some quality miles in without thinking too much about it, ride east on 19th until you can't spare any more time or energy; then turn around and come home. There are dozens of primo gravel roads that intersect with 19th, making the courses that can branch off of this beloved gravel pipeline virtually limitless.

**This route keeps it simple:** a modest out-and-back down a road that has been home to the first dozen or so miles of [The Land Run 100](https://landrun100.com/) and countless organized group rides and solo training runs. One of the great benefits of riding 19th, from a training perspective, is the decent amount of climbing you can amass over a relatively short distance. Miles of @photo[painful rollers](3011136) over @photo[mixed sections of pavement and gravel](3011120) give way to some rugged and punishing climbs 15-20 miles from town. This route only ventures up the first of these: familiarly known as "@slice[Jim's Blowup Hill](d,20932.23,21649.32)," after living legend Jim Bruer, who designed many of the first and best routes exploring the network of gravel surrounding Stillwater. (*For all I know, this route might be one of his.*)

Another reason 19th is so well traveled by Stillwater gravel grinders is the fact that when conditions are wet the unpaved roads east of town tend to drain more quickly and completely than those going in other directions. Another attraction is @photo[the abandoned historic structures of Ingalls, OK](3011118), stand just feet from the road at mile 10.8 on this out-and-back, which offer a great place to @photo[regroup](2932661), @photo[hydrate](2932665), or @photo[get rowdy](2932662). Not hard to get hung up there, but venturing just a few miles beyond Ingalls rewards you with some of the best climbing within thirty miles of Stillwater. There are two other big climbs just after @photo[Blowup Hill](3011116), should you wish to venture a few slow miles farther.
