Route Details

To start this adventure, head over to @poi[Bike Newport](5596670). The friendly staff are local experts on fat biking the beach and have all the intel you need. This is a big ride at 27 miles, so having a vehicle shuttle is almost required. You’ll need two vehicles, with one waiting at the end of your ride to avoid having to pedal back on the road. Or you can use @poi[Bike Newport](5596670)’s shuttle service to help ease your mind of the logistics.

Before embarking on a beach ride, it’s important to know which way the wind is blowing—it’s always best to have the wind at your back to enjoy the speed the tailwind would provide. It couldn’t be any easier than starting right from @poi[Bike Newport](5596670) and heading south. Another option is to park at South Beach State Park and head over the dunes to start the ride.  While leaving Newport ride through Yaquina Bay State Park, climb up and over the @slice[Newport Bridge](d,2271.22,2843.06), and take in the spectacular view from the top of the bridge. Continue your warm-up ride along the road, and take a @point[right](d,5323.78) into South Beach State Park to make your way to the sand. Once on the beach, point your fat tires south and start the journey down the shoreline.

The beaches are wide open and present no obstacles until the halfway point at @slice[Beaver Creek](d,14529.08,15498.05). Although it initially looks a bit daunting, find the footpath bridge to cross over the river. Riding up to Seal Rock, you'll feel like ants riding along the massive rock features.

The solid rock peninsula forces you back to the road at @point[Curtis Street](d,16952.12), which brings you to the top of @poi[Seal Rock State Recreation Site](5596667). Hike out to the cliff edges and take some time to enjoy a lunch stop. After a nice break, you'll be recharged and ready to continue on the adventure. To get around the large rock formations, stay on the road until it hits Quail Street.  Take a right and jump back onto the beach; splashing through a couple of stream crossings down to Waldport keeps things exciting.

Jump off the beach at Bayfront Beach Club and head south on Hwy 101, over the @slice[Alsea Bay Bridge](d,27694.52,28336.2). Just after the bridge, we rode back onto the beach, taking in the views and dreaming about the cold beers waiting for you. When the sand ends, hop up onto a singletrack trail guiding you into Yachats. After a full day in the saddle, Yachats is a warm welcome as you make your way to a big meal and local beer at Yachats Brewing to celebrate the 27-mile accomplishment.
